I also arrived at the start line already sleep-deprived, because just like the first day of Ultraman Canada, I just could not sleep the night before. That brought me to the start line rested, uninjured, and completely unsure that the training I'd done was enough to get me through 100 miles. I found a coach who agreed with me that "less is more", and I did some fairly comparatively minimal training for Rocky. well, I'd just have to hope for the best, since I have very little experience with sleep deprivation. I think the first seed was planted at the California International Marathon in 2015, where I'd fallen off pace, and I told Kate I'd rather run 100 slow miles than try to "race" another marathon.Īt some point I realized that even if I was a terrible night trail runner, there were plenty of people who basically walked the entire night portion. I'm a terrible night trail runner, and I really like sleep. Once upon a time, I said I had no interest in running a 100 miler.
